Dr. Toback received his Bachelor of Science from St. John’s University (magna cum laude) in 1991, and his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Connecticut in 1995 (Award for Excellence in Restorative and Prosthetic Dentistry). Following completion of his dental degree, Dr. Toback pursued advanced training in periodontics and dental implants at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. In 1998, Dr. Toback returned to Connecticut to begin private practice with Shoreline Periodontics.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Toback enjoys teaching others about his passion of periodontics.  He was an appointed faculty at UCONN School of Dental Medicine from 1998 – 2007. As an assistant clinical professor during that time, he spent one day per week providing clinical and lecture instruction to dental students and periodontal residents. He now returns to UCONN as a guest lecturer and instructor as his schedule permits.   Dr. Toback frequently lectures on a variety of surgical topics at dental meetings, to dental societies, hygienist societies and dental study clubs.  Most recently, Dr. Toback has lectured extensively on computer guided implant surgery, and the use of three-dimensional imaging in diagnostic planning.

This select group of 12 leading periodontists from across the nation was developed to provide objective evaluation of new research and technology. In addition, the S.C.P.P. developed customized computer software that will allow the 12 members to combine clinical research data on dental implants and bone regeneration, in a way never before possible.

Personal Statement:

I’d like to welcome you to our website and thank you for your interest in our practice. Since 1998, I’ve taken great pride in our office, my staff and the premier level of quality care we provide our patients.

I grew up in New York, on Long Island, attending St. John’s University on a tuba scholarship. While enrolled in the School of Pharmacy, my girlfriend and future wife, was working for a dentist and she encouraged me to explore a future in dentistry. I soon realized that dentistry provided me with the perfect opportunity to merge my love for science with the artistic/creative side of my personality.

Jenine and I were married while I was in dental school at UCONN. We then moved to San Antonio for three years while I trained at the University of Texas, in the surgical specialty of Periodontics and Dental Implantology. We have fond memories of barbecue, enchiladas and the start of our family.

In 1998, we made a decision to make southeastern Connecticut our home, and I began practice at Shoreline Periodontics in New London. We immediately felt at home and knew that it was the perfect place to raise our family. I enjoyed getting to know all of my patients, and the small-town feel of our quiet corner of the state.

Dr. Toback SkiingJenine and I are very proud of our three wonderful children; Austin, Ashley and Ethan. I enjoy spending as much time with them as possible when not in the office. We love to ski together as a family in the winter, taking the drive north to Vermont whenever possible. We also love spending time on the water together, enjoying the incredible coastal advantages in our area. We all love fishing, and going to the many hidden beaches accessible by boat.

Dr. Toback Coaching baseballI have also enjoyed being involved with youth sports. I strongly believe that it is a critical responsibility and a privilege to work with young athletes and help mold the character of these impressionable young people. I have coached baseball for many years, and enjoyed managing the 12-year-old East Lyme All-Star squad to their fourth District-10 title in the history of the league (2009). I have served as a board member for the East Lyme Little League for many years, and as its president from 2009-2011. In addition, I co-founded the Connecticut Raiders competitive travel baseball program in 2009, and have been its general manager since its inception. Beyond coaching my own children, I have taken my role and impact on our young men very seriously. I am proud of the many athletes that have passed through my teams, and I anticipate with excitement the great things ahead of them.

Over the years, I have been blessed with an amazing staff, which has shared the vision I have had for a state-of-the-art periodontal and implant surgical practice. They have had an obsession with perfection, and our patients regularly communicate their gratitude for our attention to the details. They have created a warm and nurturing environment which puts even the most anxious patients at ease.

We look forward to meeting you, getting to know you, and sharing our passion for periodontics and dental implants. Please visit our blog to read subjects of interest, and to learn more about the services that we offer in our practice!
